Models for managing people 2
Explores the underlying ethical and economic roots of people management and how these debates have evolved from nineteenth century philanthropy, through scientific management to debates about commitment and exploitation. On top of this foundation, the major models of the relationship between HRM and business strategy will be explored. From Soft and hard HRM to their contemporary expressions in practice, the module compares the Best fit vs Best practice & VRIO models and uses a mixture of case studies, contemporary examples and group work to enable participants to position their own organisational models in context and understand consequences for performance, recruitment and so forth.
The module will provide participants the knowledge to make strategic choices, with awareness of both economic and social consequences of actions taken and thus make a more meaningful contribution to business planning.
